As the Queen machine was to be hoisted
on chains it was necassary to make a maquette to check that it would work
full size...well a third of full size, but still bigger than this one which
measured about a foot and a half long.
What the hell is THAT?
The main body and link up head were
my lookout, while Alan and john did the legs and finished off the spine.
Chris and Andy did the long spine that the whole lot rested on. The first
frame that was delivered to me didnt fit inside the head, so Bill said to
make a mock frame in EMA. As long as the welders followed the model to the
letter, the next frame would fit like a glove. You can see the plastic frame
in this picture.
Phew!
The metal frame for the chain pulleys
does indeed fit! Rough alignment.jpg Getting heavy! A little tweaking before
the Vac-formed top cover can be glued in place
Chains? High tech!
Testing the mechanism. Making sure the
chains pass through the head smoothly after Alan and John had filled it
with two part expanding foam.
Looking good... Looking Baaad!
The Queen machine in position in Prague.
Alan and John's turn to go to Prague this time.
Come into my parlour... ....if you dare!
A wider shot, showing more of the ceremonial
chamber the QM is housed in. Those predator guards would look cool in the
hall!
look ma, Im on the Telly!
This gives you a better idea of how
big the queen machine was.
Take these chains
Overhead view, also seen again later
in the film, with CGI aliens scrambling all over it.
Its rude to point
